Will I be held liable should the cleaner injure herself while performing her duties?
Under the Work Injury Compensation Act (replaces the Workmen's Compensation Act with effect from 1 April 2008), domestic workers are not covered by the Act. In other words, you are not responsible for any forms of compensation benefits if the cleaner injures herself during work. However, to the best of their abilities, employers are required to provide cleaners with a safe working environment.
What do I need to prepare for the cleaner?
To ensure that the cleaning session is efficient and quick, owners are required to have all basic cleaning equipment such as vacuum cleaner, broom, mops, dusters, wipe cloths, pails ready as well as all cleaning solutions and detergents, along with plenty of water. However, as mentioned above, some cleaning companies in Singapore bring their own cleaning equipment and solutions/detergents so you don’t have to worry about providing the same for the cleaners.
Can I extend the working/cleaning hours?
Yes, but this would also highly depend on the cleaning company that you opt for and their terms and conditions for the extension of the working house. You can call and request the company to extend the hours and pay the cleaner for the extra hours accordingly. However, some companies have a cut-off limit to the number of hours their cleaners are permitted to work in a day to avoid overworking them, in which case, the cleaners will have to visit your home the next day to complete the job.
How do I pay for my cleaning services?
Again, this would depend on the specific cleaning company in Singapore that you opt for and their terms and conditions. However, most home cleaning companies in Singapore, including the ones mentioned above accept Cash On Delivery and Credit/Debit Card Payments in advance.
Will I get the same cleaner servicing my home every session?
Yes, you can request the same cleaner/maid to come every time; however, it would also depend on his/her availability. If she isn't available, someone else will be assigned to you. But once you are satisfied and pleased with one cleaner, the company will send her to your house for every cleaning session.
Do I have to be in the house when your team is cleaning?
As far as possible, it is advisable to have somebody present in the house while the cleaning services are in progress to avoid any complications involving missing/broken items, inefficient cleaning, etc. later. Therefore, it is better if someone is present in the house while the cleaning is going on. However, if you have urgent errands or work to attend to, you could step out after giving clear cleaning instructions to the cleaners about the work.
