Drainage Services Department (DSD)'s vision is to provide world-class wastewater and stormwater drainage services enabling the sustainable development of Hong Kong. Since the establishment in September 1989, DSD has made good progress in both sewage treatment and flood prevention. The completion of three drainage tunnels in Tsuen Wan, Lai Chi Kok and Hong Kong West, Happy Valley Underground Stormwater Storage Scheme, Regulation of Shenzhen River Stages I to III, Disinfection and Odour Control Facilities at Stonecutters Island Sewage Treatment Works, and the pilot scheme of water reclamation are examples of DSD's encouraging achievements in recent years. During the implementation of our projects, we take into consideration various factors, including ecology conservation, compatibility with the local environment and public concerns.

In future, DSD will continue to implement various large-scale projects, including Kai Tak River Improvement Works, Revitalization of Tsui Ping River and Relocation of Sha Tin Sewage Treatment Works to Caverns, to uplift the flood protection level and alleviate the flood risk in the areas concerned. Moreover, Harbour Area Treatment Scheme Stage 2A has been commissioned within 2015 and further improve the water quality of Victoria Harbour.

As most of DSD's works are carried out in public areas, they may cause inconvenience to members of the public. DSD is hence committed to formulating ways to minimize such disturbance. The support and understanding of the public is of utmost importance which encourages continuous improvement of DSD's services.
