Baishi Gallery Hong Kong is pleased to present the first solo exhibition of Mr. Sakamoto Ryotaro in Hong Kong, "002 Village Song Liang Taro / NAKED". Murakami Shintaro is the executive director of Tokyo creative company NAKED Inc. This exhibition will feature six new series of works, including interactive multimedia works and light sculpture projections. This is the second solo exhibition of Baishi Gallery after the solo exhibition "001" for artists in Tokyo in 2018.
In his new work, Murakami explores the potential of cutting-edge technology as a medium to express his philosophy of nature, beauty and life in a poetic and meditation manner. In the "002" exhibition, the artist has repeatedly operated love, suggesting the boundary between "beginning" and "ending", or "existence" and "non-existence", and evoking the cycle of life in a mysterious and harmonious way. . This concept is especially evident in the work "HAZAMA - Space in It" - an interactive work that captures the moment when powerful waves hit the shore. The artist explains: "The coast is the boundary line between the two worlds, with the energy of continuous growth and regression... Life blooms on this border and then disappears." In this work, the artist places the audience in the position of the moon. Just as the gravity of the moon causes tides, when the audience approaches the work, the tides begin to rise and form a ripple.
Although technology is a key element in demonstrating and enhancing the expressiveness of these works, Murakami still achieves a delicate balance between concept and technology, so that technology does not overwhelm art. For example, he uses traditional and natural elements such as Arita ceramics (AKARI series, 2019), real branches (CHILL, 2019), or collaborates with traditional Japanese culture leaders to express his aesthetics without being Covered by technology. Therefore, his way of expressing works has evolved the cooperation between science and technology and further blurred the boundaries between the two.
