5 Ways to Get Rid of Mold

Thanks to the humidity, moldy walls and ceilings are not uncommon in Hong Kong apartments. Mold and mildew are unsightly and unhealthy. They produce allergens and toxic substances. Touching them or inhaling airborne spores may cause allergic reactions, such as sneezing, red eyes and skin rash to name a few.

Here are 4 ways to tackle small areas affected by mold:

1. Scrub the moldy area with a dry, stiff-bristled toothbrush. Wipe with alcohol.

2. Spray the wall with 1:99 diluted household chlorine bleach. Wipe it down. Repaint with anti-mold paint.

3. Clean the walls regularly with rubbing alcohol. Make sure the area is well ventilated. Don’t forget to wear gloves, surgical masks and glasses.

4. Killing black mold woith vinegar. Pour the white vinegar onto a disposable towel and wipe onto the mold covered ares. Allow it to dry for an hour and finally get a damp towel and wipe clean.

5.During the humid seasons, keep the windows closed whenever possible. Dehumidifiers, air conditioners and fans could help lessen the effects of condensation on the walls.
